National School Breakfast Week Around the Country
To celebrate school breakfast and the people who prepare and serve meals to children across the country, National School Breakfast Week 2022 was held March 7-11 with the theme “Take Off with School Breakfast.” From the kitchens to the cafeteria lines, so many creative examples have been seen showcasing the importance of breakfast.

New menu items greeted students in Texas. Coppell ISD introduced a Sausage Morning Roll to the line up that is full of protein to help students start their day strong. There were lots of thumbs up at the cafeteria tables for the new meals, including Eggoji Waffles that were served later in the week.

In Georgia, Gordon County Schools celebrated their super-powered school breakfast program with some special guest servers. The district’s superintendent, Dr. Kimberly Fraker, State Representative Matt Barton & Principal Amy Beason served the students at Sonoraville Elementary School, donning superhero capes.
Mount Vernon City School District in Ohio gave a shout of to Mrs. DeVillers at East Elementary and their MVCSD Food Services for all that they do.

During National School Breakfast Week, not only were breakfast meals highlighted but many school districts took time to recognize the hard working men and women who deliver breakfast and lunch with a smile on their faces every day.
Studies show that there are multiple benefits to school breakfast programs. It has been shown to boost students’ academic performance, grades and test scores, also increase concentration, improve classroom behavior and reduce absenteeism and tardiness.
