SNA Regional Employees of the Year Announced on School Lunch Hero Day

While cafeteria employees are often the most visible school nutrition professionals, they don’t always get recognized for the tremendous work they do. They are the heart and soul of the cafeteria experience for students of every age – we all remember our favorite School Lunch Hero. It’s that time again, when we give those lunch ladies and gentlemen their much-deserved recognition! The national, non-profit School Nutrition Association (SNA) has paired down from thousands of nominations of deserving candidates and awarded six Regional Employees of the Year, an award that was created to recognize outstanding school nutrition employees who influence the quality of school meals through customer service. Food Service Professionals Named Regional Managers of the Year

Managers of food service are often the ones troubleshooting a problem, too busy to be recognized by students, but helping to create an enjoyable and choreographed cafeteria experience. In recognition of their outstanding hard work and dedication, the national, non-profit School Nutrition Association (SNA) has awarded the 2017 Regional Managers of the Year, which is considered the highest honor a school nutrition manager can earn. School Professionals Receive 2017 Regional Director of the Year Award

The national non-profit, School Nutrition Association (SNA), has once again awarded Regional Directors of the Year, celebrating those who show an extraordinary commitment to their school meal programs. These heroes may work behind the scenes more than other cafeteria employees, but they are working hard to ensure everything on the frontline is running smoothly – by maintaining the quality of the school meal programs through student interaction, menu planning and a commitment to serving nutritious, tasty and well-balanced school meals. School Lunch Hero Day Celebrates National Award Winners

What better way to celebrate school lunch heroes than by recognizing national winners of Director, Manager and Employee of the Year?  The non-profit School Nutrition Association (SNA) teamed up with Jarrett J. Krosoczka, author and illustrator of the popular LUNCH LADY graphic novel series, and Random House Children’s Books, to celebrate all of America’s school nutrition professionals through School Lunch Hero Day, May 5. Lifelong Service to Students

Teachers, administrators and staff are often celebrated for their service when they retire. For Evie Hess, school cafeteria manager in Sailorway Middle School in Vermilion Local Schools, OH, her dedication to students was marked with a regional Manager of the Year award!

Evie worked for 30+ years to make lunchtime healthy and fun for students. To make sure menus were kid-approved, she launched a Student Nutrition Advisory Council, working with the students to get feedback. The project was so popular that more than 60 students apply to serve on SNAC each year.
