Schools Shoot for the Stars to Celebrate Breakfast
School districts around the country celebrated National School Breakfast Week (March 2-6) last week. This year’s galactic theme, “School Breakfast: Out Of This World,” supplied schools with plenty of creative ideas to highlight the importance of school breakfast and help make students mornings a little brighter!
This year, school nutrition and food service departments created cafeteria decorations and wore out-of-this-world themed outfits!
“Out Of This World” also gave school nutrition professionals the chance to have some fun with breakfast options, using alien and outer space themes to make their grab and go breakfast items more fun during NSBW. Districts also used this weeklong celebration of breakfast as an opportunity to hold taste tests for potential new recipes and welcome guest servers to the cafeteria, like principals, legislators and police officers.
Even though National School Breakfast Week (NSBW) is celebrated once a year, school breakfasts continue to make a huge difference in a student’s school day. Students who have access to a healthy school breakfast have shown improved attendance, behavior, and academic performance as well as decreased tardiness.
