Schools End 2018 With Holiday Splendor
Union County Schools (GA) showed how to get in the holly jolly spirit, celebrating their students before winter break. The district’s cafeterias were full of fun events and holiday activity, including student costumes and transformation of cafeterias into winter wonderlands.
The Union County Primary and Elementary Schools’ decorations were befitting of a Christmas play, with blow up holiday characters and bulletin boards depicting famous movie scenes. The Union County High School Theatre department’s performance of “The Grinch” this year featured UCHS concert and jazz band and chorus ensemble, getting the whole district into a very “Grinchy” mood! The Grinch visited with students and was even caught trying to climb down a chimney in the cafeteria!
Union County Middle School school nutrition staff won the Chamber of Commerce‘s Gingerbread Contest “Popular Vote” this December, incorporating student assistance and creativity. Sacrificing their work breaks and staying late, school nutrition staff members went above and beyond their duties – spending seven weeks making and rolling out the gingerbread, and designing their gingerbread house. Together they created a replica of UCMS completely made out of handmade gingerbread, icing and candy.
UCMS cafeteria staff once again joined forces with the school’s Future Farmers of America Agriculture Department to smoke the turkeys that would be used for the annual “Christmas Lunch.” UCHS Cafe staff work tirelessly each year to bring homemade and local options for the Christmas Lunch. They serve turkey with cornbread dressing, sweet potato soufflé, southern style green beans, buttered corn, salad, fresh fruit and apple crisp.
High school students participated in photo sessions during breakfast and lunch, where they could stand behind a wood cutout of the Grinch Who Stole Christmas in the cafeteria.
