School lunch tech tools

Following trend of the digital lives of students, more school cafeterias are communicating through mobile apps to relay menu details and nutritional profiles, including special diets info.

In Cincinnati Public Schools, a nutrition app is not only changing how students and parents get meal information, it’s used in classrooms for morning announcements and by school nurses to tally carb counts and manage student allergy needs.

The district also uses online accounts that allow parents to monitor what students purchase in the school cafeteria line in addition to providing payment options online. The level of engagement that parents can have with their school meal programs gives more insight into what their kids are eating and opens up new lines of conversation about healthy foods and balanced eating!
